Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of the club’s UEFA Champions League opener against Sporting CP and is also expected to miss Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches due to a groin injury.

According to ESPN, Osimhen is expected to spend between two and three weeks on the sidelines after scans confirmed an advanced-moderate strain with bleeding in his right adductor muscle group.

The 27-year-old sustained the injury during Galatasaray’s 3-2 Super Lig victory over İstanbul Başakşehir on Friday, scoring the opening goal before being forced off in the 33rd minute.

Galatasaray subsequently confirmed that MRI and further examinations detected the strain, with treatment now underway. The club’s medical update effectively rules Osimhen out of Wednesday’s Champions League league-phase opener away to Sporting CP.
