The Transport Ministry has submitted for public consultation provisions that it says will bring sweeping changes to the process for issuing vehicle number plates, hoping to end delays and speed up their delivery to vehicle owners.
The provisions, published on September 1, introduce a model that will eliminate the old bureaucratic procedures at the Transport Directorates by handling the ordering and manufacturing of number plates, as well as their management, issuance, replacement, payment, shipping costs, receipt, and supervision.
The system administrator will be the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
The new digital system is designed to ensure speed and transparency.
