This summer was the sixth warmest in Greece since 1960, exceeding normal seasonal temperatures nationwide, scientists at the National Observatory of Athens reported.

According to meteo.gr, summer 2026 temperatures averaged one-degree Celsius above the 1991-2020 mean. Out of 92 summer days, 68 exceeded seasonal averages.

June was the 10th warmest, July the 12th, and August tied for third warmest, sitting 1.6°C above average.

The season was 0.56°C cooler than 2025 and near 2023 levels, while 2024 remains the hottest recorded. Regionally, western areas saw their second or third warmest summer, while eastern regions experienced milder anomalies. No area dropped below normal.
