The rebuilt museum in Medzilaborce has reopened with a Warhol hologram, immersive digital installations, a walkable green roof and more than 400 of the artist’s works.
Andy Warhol was born in Pittsburgh and became one of the best-known figures of American Pop Art. But his family roots lie in north-eastern Slovakia, where a museum dedicated to his work has reopened after an extensive reconstruction.

The Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art in Medzilaborce, the only museum dedicated to the artist in Europe, closed in 2023 after its premises were damaged by a water leak. It has now reopened with new exhibition spaces and digital technology following a €15.9 million renovation.
“The reconstruction has taken the museum to a new level,” said Donald Warhola, the artist's nephew, as quoted by the SITA newswire. “Uncle Andy was always a supporter of the most modern technologies,” Warhola said, adding that this approach is now reflected in the museum.
