An undertrial prisoner who pushed two police personnel and escaped while being taken to prison in Ramanathapuram was arrested by the police after nine days.Thirupathi Kumar (40), a resident of Pottithatti near Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district, who is differently abled, has 21 pending cases against him at the Paramakudi and Sathirakudi police stations.In 2020, he was arrested by the Paramakudi Taluk police in connection with a case of beating his wife to death. The trial is ongoing in the Ramanathapuram District Mahila Court. As Thirupathi Kumar failed to appear regularly for the trial, a warrant was issued against him.Consequently, on August 29, Paramakudi Taluk Sub-Inspector Dinakaran and Head Constable Neelavathi arrested Thirupathi Kumar and produced him before the Ramanathapuram court.The judge ordered that he be remanded in judicial custody until September 11. Following this, as Thirupathi Kumar complained of leg pain, the two police personnel took him to the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital for a medical examination.That night, after the medical examination, while he was being taken to the Ramanathapuram prison, Thirupathi Kumar pushed both police personnel and escaped.Based on a complaint lodged by Sub-Inspector Dinakaran, the Ramanathapuram Bazaar police registered a case and launched a search for him.Meanwhile, stating that they had been negligent in security duty, District Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh ordered the suspension of Dinakaran and Neelavathi.Thirupathi Kumar, who had been in hiding around Ramanathapuram, went to his native village on Monday to collect clothes from his house. The Paramakudi Taluk police caught him there and handed him over to the Ramanathapuram Bazaar police.The Bazaar police subsequently arrested him and lodged him in the Ramanathapuram prison.
