Theni police on Thursday nabbed R. Ganesan of Varushanadu who had escaped while he was in police custody in April. He was arrested in Periyakulam. He was remanded in judicial custody and is lodged in Thekkampatti District Prison.The accused, who had been serving as a remand prisoner in the jail, was taken to the court for extension of judicial custody. While they were returning to the sub-jail in the evening, the accused had reported of some uneasiness.After obtaining necessary permission from the sub-jail authorities, policemen took him to Theni Government Medical College and Hospital. After a thorough medical examination, he was brought back to the sub-jail.Even as they were waiting in front of the sub-jail for the authorities to open the doors, the accused escaped under the cover of darkness.
