OpenAI is gearing up to launch Managed Agents, a new platform capability that lets users create and deploy AI agents through a unified system, at its DevDay 2026 event on September 29 in San Francisco.

Sam Altman will deliver the opening keynote via livestream.

What Managed Agents actually does

Managed Agents will allow developers and enterprise users to build intelligent agents equipped with customizable environments, skills, and plugins. The platform also includes options for self-hosting.

OpenAI has been laying the groundwork all year with a string of agent-focused releases. In February 2026, OpenAI launched Frontier, an enterprise management platform designed specifically for overseeing AI agents at scale. Two months later, in April, Workspace Agents became generally available, giving teams collaborative AI assistants embedded in their workflows. Then in July, the company released Presence, a product targeting deployed enterprise agents in production environments.
