A former traffic official has pleaded guilty to charges of corruption in the Bellville Specialised Commercial Crimes Court after taking money to issue learner's and driver's licences.
A former senior Stellenbosch traffic official who accepted cash from applicants in exchange for learners’ and drivers licences has been sentenced to six years in prison for corruption.
Elvis Frank Nontyi, 55, pleaded guilty to six counts of corruption in the Bellville Specialised Commercial Crimes Unit after taking R5,500 from applicants between March and July 2022.
Nontyi was a senior superintendent at Stellenbosch Driving Licence Testing Centre, where he had access to the National Traffic Information System.
Nontyi was arrested in July 2025 by members of the Hawks after an extensive investigation.
