On July 27, Ukrainian Defense Forces eliminated Oleg Shutov in temporarily occupied Donetsk. Shutov was an employee of the so-called Special Operations Center of the Ministry of State Security of the Donetsk People’s Republic and had previously been identified by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) as the direct perpetrator of the killing of Major General Maksym Shapoval.

Sources in the Ukrainian intelligence services told LB.ua, according to Ukrinform. They also provided photographs that they said showed surveillance of Shutov and his elimination.

According to the publication’s sources, the operation was carried out by Ukrainian intelligence services in the occupied territory. Shutov was reportedly killed after an improvised explosive device was planted in his Subaru and detonated when he arrived at the Dynamo sports complex in Donetsk’s Leninskyi district in the evening of July 27.

Local occupation-affiliated information resources reported the incident as a “nighttime UAV attack that injured the head of the sports wrestling federation.” However, according to LB.ua’s sources, Shutov was killed in a car explosion.

According to the sources, information about Shutov’s elimination was not released immediately after the operation for security reasons, until the intelligence and combat group had returned to Ukrainian-controlled territory.
