Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Sunday defended a broad package of tax cuts, wage increases and social support measures, arguing that Greece’s economic progress now allows the government to return more benefits to citizens while maintaining fiscal discipline.
At a news conference following his announcements at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, Mitsotakis rejected suggestions that the measures were aimed at securing electoral gains ahead of the next national vote.
“As long as the economy continues to outperform, we will return a dividend of growth to citizens,” he said. “It would have been pre-electioneering if I had exceeded the limits.”
The package includes increases in the minimum wage and pensions, tax reductions for self-employed professionals, businesses and farmers, and new support measures for families and people with disabilities.
