Temperatures across England and Wales are to surge to the high 20s before rain arrives over the next week.
After a cloudy start to Sunday, fine, sunny weather has provided a pleasant end to the first weekend in September, with temperatures reaching as high as 26°C in the south-east.
In London, temperatures reached 26°C, 21-23°C in the north of England, and 23°C in parts of the south-west.
The Met Office’s five-day forecast shows early rain on Monday, but it will clear through southern and central areas of England, with dry and bright weather until late. However, this will be followed by showers moving south-eastwards, with gales towards the northwest.The rain will ease throughout Tuesday, leading to a mostly dry and bright day on Wednesday. Thursday will start fine and dry but outbreaks of rain will follow, with stronger winds likely to move in from the west.
