Presidential campaigns inevitably produce famous faces. But elections are rarely won by famous faces alone.

Behind the podiums, rallies, television appearances, posters and social-media trends lies an enormous machinery requiring discipline, logistics, negotiation, intelligence gathering, conflict resolution and coordination.

That is why the office of Director-General of a presidential campaign should be understood first as an organisational responsibility.

The appointment of Senator Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council consequently invites examination from this perspective.
