The Vitla Pindi festivities, which are held a day after Krishna Janmashtami, concluded in a grand manner in Udupi on Saturday.Various religious and cultural programmes, including Krishna Vesha Spardhe, were held on the Krishna Mutt premises on account of Krishna Janmashtami on Friday. On Saturday, many were seen in Udupi town visiting houses sporting ‘Huli vesha’ and other costumes. Many devotees visited the Krishna Mutt to witness the festivities related to Vitla Pindi on Saturday. Police had stepped up measures for crowd control and vigilance over the two days.On Saturday morning, Paryaya Shiroor Mutt seer Sri Vedavardhana Tirtha performed puja to the Mrunmaya (clay-made) idol of Lord Krishna and performed the Maha puja. Around 3 p.m., the Mrunmaya idol was brought by the Swamiji to Ratha Beedi. The idol was placed in a silver chariot and taken around Ratha Beedi. Devotees dressed as Gollas broke ghee pots placed atop poles on Ratha Beedi. Folk artistes led the procession, while devotees dressed in various costumes followed.
