Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to announce the creation of a savings account for every child, with the state depositing money each month until the child reaches age 18, as part of a broader package of economic measures to be unveiled at the Thessaloniki International Fair.
According to information cited by government sources, the package will carry an annual fiscal cost of more than €2.5 billion and will include tax reductions for farmers and large families, as well as permanent financial support for pensioners and public-sector employees.
Mitsotakis, attending the fair for the 10th time either as leader of New Democracy or as prime minister, is expected to focus his speech on the future rather than the government’s past record.
Government sources say the word “horizon” will play a central role in the address, with a focus on goals extending to 2030. The measures are expected to launch a new four-year governing cycle and will be presented with a timetable beginning in November.
Government sources describe the proposals as “studied and costed.” The package is aimed at workers, pensioners, self-employed professionals, farmers and families. Officials say it is designed to complement this year’s tax reform.
