Recent data from Argentina’s automotive industry paint a mixed picture. While the sector as a whole has not managed to return to last year’s levels, electric vehicles from Chinese manufacturers continue to gain market share.
According to data from the Association of Automotive Manufacturers (in Spanish, AFAC), 39,381 vehicles were produced in August. Although this figure is a 26% increase compared to July, it’s also an 11% decline compared to August 2025.
Total production for 2026 stood at 275,228 units (down 17.1% compared to 2025).
“The August results show a recovery compared to July, although the year-over-year trend and year-to-date figures indicate that the sector continues to face a challenging environment,” ADEFA head Rodrigo Pérez Graziano said.
Wholesale sales to dealerships followed the same trend. In August, 39,068 vehicles were sold (a 14.3% monthly increase, but a 24.5% drop compared to August 2025). For the year, 301,377 units were sold (24.8% less compared to the same period last year).
