The detention of three Bulgarian citizens in Munich following an incendiary-device attack on a company linked to Germany’s defense sector has raised questions about possible Russian involvement, while investigators continue to establish the exact role, if any, of the two main suspects.
Three Molotov cocktails were thrown from a car at around 11:47 p.m. Wednesday at the office of Rohde & Schwarz in Munich. Security guards who witnessed the incident recorded the vehicle’s license plate and alerted police. The car, a white BMW, was later found at a gas station a little more than a kilometer from the scene.
Inside were two Bulgarian citizens, 38-year-old Dimitar T. and 28-year-old Gabriela M., both of whom have addresses in the Munich area. Police searched the vehicle and found suitcases, but no explosive devices. Investigators have not yet established whether the two were responsible for throwing the incendiary devices or were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The Bavarian Criminal Police Office and Munich prosecutor’s office have stressed that the investigation remains at an early stage. “The extent to which the two individuals are connected to the incident is currently under investigation,” the authorities said.
