Chennai Metrowater has intensified the monitoring of drinking water quality in its supply systems as a precautionary measure ahead of the Northeast monsoon.On average, Metrowater’s Quality Assurance Wing collects about 900 water samples every month, including from households, pipelines, and treatment plants.‘To rectify defects’A press release said field-level monitoring and preparedness measures would be intensified to rectify the defects in water quality detected in the distribution network.Metrowater is also taking measures to promptly detect damage caused to its infrastructure by various infrastructure and development projects.The water agency has also advised residents to use stored water regularly and maintain their drinking water pipes and connections. Storing water for long periods of time would lead to a foul odour, it said.Residents may register their complaints at Metrowater’s helpline 044-45674567 or online, the release said.
