A dozen young storks that had been brought in for care over the past two months have recovered and been released into the wild again, the Anima wildlife society said Friday.
Anima said in a social media post that the large birds were set free near Lake Carla in central Greece – and immediately headed off in the direction of a crop-watering system for quick relief from the heat.
“We believe they will soon migrate together to Africa,” Anima said.
The young storks spent at least two weeks together in a large cage that allows them space enough to fly that Anima has built on the Attica Park zoo premises, where they were cared for by zoo staff.
