A Russian attack on Odesa early Friday, Sept. 4, killed one person and injured at least three others, Ukrainian officials said. At this moment, we know of three injured people,” Lysak said, adding that they were receiving medical assistance. He later confirmed that one person had been killed. Emergency and municipal crews were working at the scene, inspecting the affected area and documenting damage. An operational headquarters was also being set up to assist residents. The attack came just a day after another Russian strike on Odesa wounded 17 people, including three children, and damaged a 21-story residential building. Russia has repeatedly targeted Odesa and the surrounding region with missiles and drones, striking homes as well as energy, port and export infrastructure vital to Ukraine’s economy. “The enemy did not take a vacation – the Russians have found a new escalation and have no plans to slow it down,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday, referring to a renewed Russian aerial campaign that damaged 13 Ukrainian regions. The latest attack again brought the cost of Moscow’s war directly to civilians, killing and injuring residents far from the battlefield as Russia continues its campaign against Ukraine’s Black Sea cities.
