LAGOS — Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Femi Falana, and human rights lawyer, Ms Ayo Obe, have warned that the 2027 general elections may not be credible if flaws associated with previous electoral exercises persist.

The duo spoke on Thursday at the 25th Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture in Lagos, where they identified strict adherence to electoral laws and guidelines by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), rejection of vote buying and protection of voters from intimidation as critical to credible elections.

The lecture, themed “Democracy at the Crossroads: Electoral Credibility, Judicial Integrity and the Future of Nigeria,” also focused on the role of the judiciary and electoral institutions in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy.
