In a statement on Wednesday titled “Nigerian Judges and Lawyers Should Be Prevented From Sabotaging the 2027 Election,” Falana expressed concern over recent judgments delivered by judges of the Federal High Court on the powers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding election timelines.
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has called on the National Judicial Council and the Nigerian Bar Association to investigate what he described as conflicting court rulings capable of undermining preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Falana recalled that last Wednesday, Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court invalidated INEC’s timeline for the conduct of party primaries and nomination of candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The court also nullified INEC’s May 10 deadline directing political parties to submit their membership registers and databases as part of requirements for participation in the polls.
