The Western Cape Education Department has warned teachers about WhatsApp messages offering fake teaching posts and demanding an “authorisation fee” of about R2 800.
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has warned teachers about a scam targeting unemployed and substitute teachers.
According to WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond, the department has re-issued a warning to teachers regarding this scam, having previously alerted them in December 2025.
“This fraudulent scheme misleads teachers into believing they have been selected for a teaching post and then solicits payment under false pretences.
"Several schools have recently reported further incidents involving WhatsApp messages sent to teachers,” Hammond said.
