The City of Cape Town has warned residents about a housing scam circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, where fraudsters are falsely claiming they can secure City housing opportunities in exchange for payment.
Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim, said the City is "aware of a scam circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms".

He emphasised that the City will never ask for money to secure a housing opportunity, noting that this is important to keep in mind.
