The City of Cape Town said its aware of the resurgence of this scam.
The City of Cape Town has urged motorists to be aware of a current scam making the rounds across the Metro.
The City’s Traffic Services spokesperson, Kevin Jacobs, said they were aware of a resurgence of a traffic fine scam where motorists are receiving emails or text messages demanding that they pay fines within 24 hours or face legal action.
“We want to remind the public to please be careful and verify notices received before making payment or sharing their details. In Cape Town, Infringement notices are sent via post and MMS, with follow-up SMS reminders,” Jacobs said.
Motorists were reminded that the infringement notices sent will include a picture of the fine notice and links to the two online platforms where one can view the traffic fine and the other a portal for viewing fine details and making payments.
