The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has warned vehicle owners to be on high alert after identifying a scam involving fraudulent emails demanding immediate payment for traffic fines.
The corporation said scammers are circulating emails that appear to be official communication from the National Traffic Information System (NaTIS), urging motorists to settle alleged overdue fines urgently.
“The RTMC wishes to alert vehicle owners about a scam currently going around which is demanding immediate payment for traffic fines,” the organisation said.
It warned that motorists must not fall victim to digital fraudsters using fake websites and emails designed to mislead users into paying money or handing over personal information.
“We have discovered scam emails purporting to be official communication from the National Traffic Information System from the Department of Transport,” the RTMC said.
