Morné van den Berg knows the threat posed by Cam Roigard, but the Springbok scrumhalf insists South Africa will not allow their defensive plans for the All Blacks to revolve around one player.
With the Boks preparing for an important third Test of Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry in Johannesburg on Saturday (5.10pm kick-off), Van den Berg believes the key to containing Roigard is not to target him individually, but to execute their defensive system and put pressure on the entire New Zealand attack.
The Lions scrumhalf is set to provide an impact off the bench. His tactical kicking and quick service could be valuable for the world champions in the final match on SA soil. And with the series finely balanced at 1-all, the winner at the FNB Stadium will take an unassailable lead and advantage into the final match in the USA next weekend.
“He’s a very good player,” Van den Berg said this week, laying out the plan to halt the No 9 from giving his backs quick service.
