A judge has denied the US Justice Department’s request to break up Google’s advertising technology business, instead opting for more limited behavioural remedies, after Google was found last year to be operating an illegal adtech monopoly.
The Wednesday ruling by Judge Leonie Brinkema in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia comes after a similar ruling a year ago on remedies for Google’s illegal search monopoly.
In that ruling, Judge Amit Mehta denied the Justice Department’s request to force Google to sell off its Chrome browser or Android operating system to help end Google’s illegal search monopoly.
