The second day of play at the 2026 US Open saw two more Argentine players advance to the second round, as Marco Trungelliti and Nadia Podoroska progressed in the last Grand Slam of the year, in New York.
The first to secure her ticket to the next round was Nadia Podoroska. The former No. 36 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings and 2020 Roland Garros semifinalist entered the main draw thanks to a protected ranking, despite currently being No. 447 after more than a year away from the courts due to injuries.
The Rosario native fought back from a set down to beat Switzerland’s Simona Waltert (85) 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3 in two hours and 48 minutes.
It was not only Podoroska’s first-ever main-draw victory at the US Open, but also her first Grand Slam victory in more than two years.
The 29-year-old returned to competition in late March after spending more than 400 days recovering from a series of injuries.
