Top-ranked Argentine tennis star Francisco Cerúndolo will aim for a spot in the US Open quarterfinals on Monday.
The 28-year-old, currently ranked 25th in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) singles rankings, will face Belgium’s Alexander Blockx (34).
The match is scheduled as the second on Arthur Ashe Stadium, not before 1:30 p.m. Argentine time, and will be broadcast live on ESPN and Disney+.
Blockx is coming off an upset four-set victory over Italian world No. 6 Flavio Cobolli and is making his debut in the second week of a Grand Slam. Cerúndolo and Blockx have met only once before, at this year’s Madrid Masters 1000, where the Belgian won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2.
Cerúndolo battled hard to reach the round of 16, completing a dramatic comeback against US player Taylor Fritz. The Argentine overcame a two-set deficit to win 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 after three hours and 40 minutes.
