Top-ranked Argentine tennis star Francisco Cerúndolo is through to the second round of the 2026 US Open after beating Austria’s Filip Misolic (world No. 537) in straight sets.
The elder of the Cerúndolo brothers, currently ranked No. 25 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, defeated Misolic 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 in a fairly streamlined match that lasted two hours and 23 minutes.
Cerúndolo showcased his best tennis, looking strong with his forehand and his aggressive approach, which has often made him a fan favorite.
The win ended a poor run of form for the Argentine star, who had started the year on top form, winning the Argentina Open in February and Queen’s in June, but had won just one match since then.
“I needed this win to boost my confidence and start rebuilding my game, especially after having such a strong start to the year,” Cerúndolo said. That run included first-round defeats at Wimbledon and at the ATP Masters 1000 events in Toronto and Cincinnati.
