The Plug&Charge solution from Berlin-based company Hubject enables electric vehicles to charge at charging stations without manual authorisation via a charging app, charging card, or credit card. Instead, the charging process is authorised and billed automatically in the background as the vehicle identifies itself to the charging station – provided a one-time setup has been completed.
Hubject has so far rolled out Plug&Charge primarily at fast-charging stations (DC/HPC) in collaboration with charge point operators (CPOs). However, the new partnership with Cologne-based software provider Chargecloud aims to ensure that seamless charging without manual identification will now also be possible at many AC charging stations.
Plug&Charge: major potential in the AC sector
“Plug & Charge has proven itself on DC fast chargers, but its real potential lies in the AC sector, where most of all charging takes place and where the same vehicles often charge on a regular basis. By integrating the Hubject PKI into our OS, we are now making the technology accessible for this segment too – without any additional integration effort for our CPO customers,” explained Oliver Adrian, COO & CRO of Chargecloud. “This is an important step towards making charging as simple as possible and eliminating potential sources of error such as counterfeit cards and faulty or reflective displays – simply plug in, charge, and drive on.”
