Plug&Charge is set to make charging electric vehicles significantly easier for EV drivers, as it eliminates the need for charging cards or apps. Instead, the vehicle is automatically recognised when connected to a charging station, and the charging process and payment occur automatically in the background — provided the technology has been set up once in the vehicle.
Hubject, long known in the industry primarily for its roaming platform Intercharge, has been advancing Plug&Charge for several years. The technology is based on the international ISO 15118-2 standard. The company has now gained another partner in the Japanese firm Plugo, which plans to adopt the solution.
Plugo to support the expansion of Plug&Charge
The partnership between the German and Japanese companies combines their strengths with Hubject’s Plug&Charge portfolio and technical expertise and Plugo’s presence in Japan’s charging infrastructure sector. This collaboration aims to target charge point operators (CPOs), electric mobility service providers (eMSPs), and vehicle manufacturers (OEMs) in Japan.
Plugo is a highly versatile company that develops and manufactures its own AC and DC charging stations, operates its own public charging network, and simultaneously offers charging management software and white-label solutions for other companies. This enables Plugo to cover the entire charging value chain from hardware and backend systems to apps and the operation of charging points, while acting as both a technology provider and a CPO.
