George Wood/Getty ImagesSept. 1, 2026 Updated Newcastle United’s Nick Woltemade has completed a deadline-day loan move to Juventus.The Athletic reported on Monday that Juventus were in talks with Newcastle over a loan for the 24-year-old, who played just 20 minutes over the north-east club’s first two Premier League matches this season.Woltemade signed a six-year contract with Newcastle upon joining last summer in a club-record deal worth €75million (£64.2m; $87.5m) plus €5m in potential add-ons from Stuttgart.His exit from St James’ Park follows the arrival of versatile forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille in a €60m (£51.4m, $69.6m) deal.This has been a summer of significant change at St James’ Park, with head coach Eddie Howe having departed, alongside key players Sandro Tonali (Tottenham Hotspur), Anthony Gordon (Barcelona) and Bruno Guimaraes (Arsenal).Woltemade provided an assist in his 20-minute cameo for Newcastle’s second goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Tottenham. He played the full 90 minutes in his side’s 3-2 Carabao Cup second-round win against West Bromwich Albion.Juventus’ pursuit of Woltemade comes as Canada international striker Jonathan David finalises his exit from the Turin club in a loan move to Atletico Madrid. Luciano Spalletti’s side have added Randal Kolo Muani and Bosnian winger Kerim Alajbegovic to their attack this summer, with forwards Lois Openda and Dusan Vlahovic among those departing.Woltemade had a positive start to his debut campaign at St James’ Park, scoring in four of his first five Premier League appearances.However, in the second half of the season, the Germany international struggled for form and was no longer a guaranteed starter, while then head coach Howe also experimented with a position change into midfield.Woltemade joined Newcastle following a breakout 2024-25 season which saw him score 17 times in 33 appearances in all competitions for Stuttgart. He followed that up with a series of impressive performances at the under-21 European Championship, where he recorded six goals and three assists in five matches.
