For many young Nigerians, the traditional 9-to-5 is no longer the default path to a career.

With youth unemployment estimated at nearly 80 million people in the 2025 State of The Nigerian Youth Report, entrepreneurship and self-employment are filling the gap. Increasingly, fintech platforms are becoming the entry point, turning simple agents and digital tools into full career ladders.

The agent model is where most of the growth starts. Across markets and street corners, POS agents offer cash withdrawals, transfers, bill payments, airtime and data. What begins as a way to earn daily income quickly becomes training in customer service, cash management, fraud prevention and problem-solving.
