In search of permanent solution for their drinking water crisis, residents of two villages submitted petition to District Collector Vishu Mahajan on Monday.The residents of Tamil Nadu Urban Livelihood Development Mission apartment in Ayyanadaippu near the District Collectorate said in their petition that only 50 of the 220 houses in the apartment had been occupied by the families due to perennial drinking water crisis. The families living in this apartment were buying a pot of drinking water for ₹10 as the salty water being supplied by the Ayyanadaippu village panchayat could not be used for cooking or drinking.Hence, the Collector should take appropriate steps for giving drinking water supply to them, they said.Another group of villagers from Ananthamadan Patcheri with 300 Scheduled Caste families near Tharuvaikulam submitted a petition with a similar appeal. They said their petitions submitted with the officials after battling erratic drinking water supply for 6 months did not yield any positive reply from the officials. Hence, the Collector should instruct the officials concerned for sufficient drinking water supply to Ananthamadan Petcheri, they said.Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi members submitted a petition seeking the relocation of 3 liquor shops on Tiruchendur – Tirunelveli Highway, Tiruchendur – Kulaekaranpattinam Road and Tiruchendur – Paramankurichi Road as these shops had become trouble-spots for the public every day.A group of residents from Sundaralingam Nagar in Ottapidaaram taluk submitted a petition seeking the retrieval of free house sites given to the Scheduled Caste beneficiaries from the ‘illegal possession’ of the land through ‘fake documents’ and give it back to the actual beneficiaries.
