Anwar Gargash, senior diplomatic advisor to the President of the United Arab Emirates, characterized the Islamic Republic’s policy of targeting Persian Gulf nations and Jordan as a “failure,” emphasizing that a state of “neither war nor peace” cannot serve as a long-term solution.
Writing on the social media platform X on Monday, August 31, Gargash stated: “What is needed today are realistic and sustainable political solutions that address both the political and economic dimensions of the crisis.”
Criticizing the failure to implement the Islamabad Memorandum, he added that solutions must begin with “de-escalation and the restoration of normal shipping in the Strait of Hormuz,” advocating for a more pragmatic approach moving forward.
The senior UAE presidential advisor’s remarks came after the Islamic Republic’s armed forces claimed to have targeted helicopter facilities and U.S. personnel at the UAE’s Al Minhad Air Base using “dozens of kamikaze drones” in retaliation for a U.S. strike on Larak Island.
The UAE Ministry of Defense refuted the claim, declaring reports of an attack on Al Minhad Air Base to be “incorrect.” However, the UAE Defense Ministry confirmed the interception of a drone over its territorial waters without providing further details regarding the drone’s origin or ultimate fate.
