Seven rail users associations have unanimously demanded the Southern Railway to introduce daily passenger train services via Pattukottai and Aranthangi to Madurai, Tambaram and Tiruchi.Organised by the Aranthangi Divisional Rail Users Association, a joint meeting of the associations was held at Aranthangi in Pudukottai district on Saturday. Office-bearers of the Karaikudi Chamber of Commerce, Pattukottai Rail Users Association, Madurai Division Rail Users Federation, Karaikudi Taluk Rail Passengers Welfare Association, Peravurani Rail Passengers Welfare Association, Pattukottai Rail Public Welfare Association, Adirampattinam Rail Users Association and Thillai Vilagam Rail Users’ Association participated.Various railway related demands at the local level were discussed during the meeting that was chaired by the Aranthangi Divisional Rail Users Association president A.P. Raj Kumar. Among those who participated in the meeting included V. Viveganantham, president, Pattukottai Rail Users Association, and Sami Dravida Mani, chief advisor, Karaikudi Chamber of Commerce.The meeting unanimously passed a resolution seeking introduction of daily train service between Karaikudi and Tambaram via Aranthangi, Peravurani, Pattukottai and Adirampattinam. Another resolution sought the introduction of daily passenger trains between Mayiladuthurai and Madurai via Tiruvarur, Pattukottai, Aranthangi, Karaikudi, Manamadurai, and Sivaganga.Yet another resolution demanded the operation of daily passenger trains from Tiruvarur to Tiruchi via Thiruthuraipoondi, Thillai Vilagam, Muthupet, Adirampattinam, Pattukottai, Peravurani, Aranthangi, Karaikudi, and Pudukottai. It was decided at the meeting that the office-bearers of the associations would meet the Southern Railway General Manager, Chief Passenger Transportation Manager, Southern Railway, Divisional Railway Managers of Tiruchi and Madurai to formally submit petitions.
