A 30-year-old van driver was arrested for knocking down and killing a 32-year-old motorist on Rajiv Gandhi Salai on Saturday (August 29, 2026). A senior official from the city traffic police said the deceased, Nagarajan, was a resident of Kamaraj Colony in Kodambakkam and was employed at a private company in Taramani. On Saturday, when Nagarajan was traveling on a two-wheeler for work-related purposes from Taramani towards Madhya Kailash on Rajiv Gandhi Salai, a van approaching from behind knocked him down. Nagarajan lost his balance and fell, resulting in severe head and body injuries. Immediately, the residents in the locality rushed him to a private hospital, but he died not responding to treatment. Based on an alert, the Mylapore Traffic Investigation police filed a case and apprehended the van driver, Prabhu, a resident of Pillaiyar Koil Street in Taramani for causing the accident on Sunday (August 30). The medical test of the accused revealed that he was driving the van under the influence of alcohol while causing the accident.Prabhu was produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded to prison.
