One person died and five others were injured after a van toppled near Sengipatti on the Tiruchi-Nagapattinam Highway early on Thursday.According to sources, the accident took place at around 3 a.m. The dead person was identified as Vijaya, 42, and the injured as Kirthiga and her eight-year-old son Yaswin, Arivazhagan, Devika, and Dhandapani, who had arrived at Tiruchi airport from Singapore on Wednesday night and were proceeding to Tiruvarur in the van, driven by Sakthivel of Tiruchi.When the van approached Sengipatti, the driver lost control of the vehicle because of suspected fatigue and the vehicle hit the road divider and fell on its side. Sakthivel abandoned the vehicle and ran away.Subsequently, all the passengers were rescued by local people and those travelling on the highway and were taken the Thanjavur Government Medical College and Hospital.While Vijaya was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, the others were admitted.
