Ford showed dealers a lifted, off-road Mustang called Baja, and the project remains in development but unannounced publicly.
Reported specs include AWD, a V8 with 10-speed automatic, raised ride height and long-travel suspension; none are confirmed.
An AWD Baja would depart from Mustang's current rear-wheel-drive-only lineup and target loose surfaces, distinct from the Mach-E Rally.
Ford has shown dealers a lifted, off-road version of the Mustang, and sources briefed on an internal presentation say the pony car carries the name Baja. They also say it remains in development even though Ford has said nothing about it in public.
The idea surfaced at a closed-door dealer meeting where Ford also floated a four-door Mustang and other future variants. Automotive News later reported that the off-road project still has not died. Dealers who have seen it describe something closer to a rally car than a show pony.
