mRube, the electronic trading platform of the Rubber Board, has crossed a turnover of ₹1,000 crore since its launch in June 2022, facilitating trade of 59,538 tonnes of natural rubber across major grades and forms, including RSS, ISNR and latex.During 2025-26, the electronic marketplace recorded trade of 15,647 tonnes valued at around ₹287 crore. In the current financial year, 2026-27, the platform has so far facilitated trade of 6,947 tonnes worth ₹171 crore.Binoy Kurien, Deputy Director, Marketing, Rubber Board, said that the platform has benefited stakeholders in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and the northern states by enabling dealers, sellers, processors and buyers to access markets beyond their traditional geographical networks. Sellers can reach a wider national buyer base, while buyers can source rubber from different producing regions and compare offers, improving market information and price discovery.A key advantage of mRube is its electronic contract mechanism, which formally records the agreed quantity, price and other transaction conditions. This helps reduce uncertainties associated with conventional oral agreements, particularly during periods of sharp fluctuations in rubber prices. The platform is gradually transforming natural rubber marketing by creating a transparent, organised and nationally accessible digital marketplace. It enables buyers and sellers from different parts of the country to participate in a common market, with wider market access, competitive price discovery, secure payment mechanisms and formal electronic contracts, he said. The impact has been particularly visible in the NE region, especially Tripura, where geographical distance and limited local buyer networks have traditionally constrained rubber trade. Major consumers and dealers can now source rubber directly from Tripura through mRube without establishing offices or deploying staff in the region. The growing participation of stakeholders from both producing and consuming regions highlights the platform’s potential to integrate geographically dispersed rubber markets and strengthen a transparent, efficient, quality-oriented and nationally integrated natural rubber marketing system, he added.Published on August 31, 2026
