The war in Ukraine has demonstrated that modern technologies can significantly alter the balance of forces on the battlefield, but they do not eliminate basic military calculations or the need for resources.
Can Kasapoğlu, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, stated this in an interview with Ukrinform.
"Technology compresses military arithmetic; it does not abolish it. The war in Ukraine has resurrected First World War trenches—and humans must still man and hold them," Kasapoğlu said.
The expert emphasized that even amid rapid technological development, the outcome of a war largely depends on the ability of the sides to provide their forces with the necessary resources and maintain their capacity to conduct military operations.
"Drones do the killing for over 80 percent of the battlefield targets, while Kyiv is shifting frontline logistics to ground robots. Yet this is an adaptation contest, not a Ukrainian monopoly: Russia has learned and institutionalized drone warfare through formations such as Rubicon," Kasapoğlu said.
