Russia’s war against Ukraine has shown that what matters most on the modern battlefield is not the size of the military or the quantity of weapons, but an army’s ability to quickly adapt to new challenges and apply the lessons learned.

Alper Özbilen, an Senior Expert and Strategist in Defense Technology, made these remarks in an interview with Ukrinform.

“The most important lesson of the war in Ukraine is that the course of modern warfare is no longer determined by the size of armies, but by the speed at which they adapt to change. This war has clearly demonstrated that strategic competition between major powers can no longer be measured solely by the number of troops, tanks, or aircraft,” Özbilen noted.

According to the expert, the advantage on the modern battlefield comes from the ability to integrate human capabilities and traditional weapons systems with AI-based decision-making systems, unmanned platforms, electronic warfare capabilities, and real-time data.

“Ukraine has once again demonstrated that war is not a static process but an environment of continuous learning and transformation. Its ability to rapidly convert battlefield information into new tactical solutions and technological innovations has provided not only operational flexibility but also a decisive advantage in decision-making,” Özbilen emphasized.
