Three persons of the same family, including two women, were killed after an autorickshaw they were travelling in crashed into a truck near Periyapalayam of Tiruvallur district on Saturday night. Loganathan, a resident of Kodungaiyur, was an autorickshaw driver. He, along with his family, had planned to go to the Periyapalayam temple on Saturday night. His wife Poongodi, 39, daughter Dhanalakshmi, 10, mother-in-law Radha, 65, and his nephews Gokul, 10, and Prashanth, 15, were proceeding to the temple in the autorickshaw.While speeding in the auto at Panapakkam, Loganathan did not see a truck parked near the bus stop and crashed into the truck ahead. The auto overturned in the impact, killing Poongodi on the spot. Residents of the locality rescued the five others who sustained severe injuries, and they were rushed to the nearby Periyapalayam Government Primary Health Centre. Radha and Gokul died at the health centre. The Periyapalayam police shifted the remaining three injured persons, including Loganathan, Dhanalakshmi and Prasanth, to the Tiruvallur Government Hospital for further treatment. After registering a case, the Periyapalayam police recovered the bodies of the three deceased and sent them to the Tiruvallur Government Hospital for post mortem examinations.
