Three members of a family, including an eight-year-old boy, were killed after a container truck hit their two-wheeler on Friday (May 1, 2026) night.
Traffic Police said the accident occurred when R. Karthikeyan (42), a resident of MGR Street in Ambattur, was returning home on his two-wheeler after attending a private function on the Outer Ring Road, along with his wife Premalatha and son Inbaselvan. Karthikeyan was wearing a helmet, but Premalatha and Inbaselvan were not.
When the two-wheeler approached the Madhavaram bus terminus, a 40-feet truck carrying empty containers from the Chennai Port, heading towards Bengaluru on the 200-feet Outer Ring Road, was behind them.
As the container truck got to the traffic junction at the Madhavaram bus terminus, the driver saw an omni-bus abruptly exiting the bus stand. In order to avoid hitting the bus, the driver swerved and lost control of the truck. After hitting the bus, the truck subsequently crashed into the two-wheeler proceeding in front of it. All three on the two-wheeler were killed on the spot.
The public, after apprehending the truck driver, alerted the Kolathur Traffic Investigation police. A police team arrived at the accident site and sent the bodies to Stanley Hospital.
