Sanitation workers of Kanniyakumari District Government Medical College Hospital at Aasaaripallam struck work and staged a dharna on the hospital premises on Sunday.They said the private firm, while hiring them on a contract basis, had promised a monthly salary of ₹18,500. However, the firm, without citing any reason, deducted ₹1,500 from each worker’s wages for the past three months. Also, after being recruited for sanitation duties, they were being forced to perform other unfamiliar work at the medical college hospital.Sanitary operations at the hospital were affected by the protest.
