An Olympic Air plane flying between the southeastern Aegean Sea islands of Rhodes and Karpathos was forced to return shortly following take-off Sunday after the pilot reported a potential malfunction, reports said.

The ATR 42-600 turboprop landed safely at Rhodes’ airport, where the Fire Service and civil aviation authorities had been placed on alert after the pilot’s communication. There was no immediate information on how many passengers and crew were on board.

According to the state ANA-MPA news agency, mechanics were conducting an inspection of the plane to see what triggered the alert, and whether it could carry out the flight to Karpathos or another aircraft would need to be laid on.
