A Ryanair passenger plane traveling from Thessaloniki to Munich was forced to return to Greece after experiencing an engine problem during the flight, but landed safely at Thessaloniki’s Macedonia Airport, according to Greek media reports.
One passenger suffered minor injuries after a piece of debris from the damaged engine struck a cabin window during the aircraft’s descent.
The problem was detected while the plane was flying over North Macedonia. The pilots decided to turn back toward Thessaloniki after the technical issue could not be resolved while the aircraft was in the air.
During the approach for landing, a fragment from the engine reportedly broke away and hit a passenger window. The impact caused minor injuries, but officials said the aircraft’s fuselage remained intact and there was no danger of structural damage.
Emergency procedures were immediately activated at Macedonia Airport. Firefighters, ambulances, police officers and other emergency teams were placed on standby as the aircraft prepared to land.
