Durban art teacher Zanele Nsindane described the photographic exhibition hosted at her school on Friday, August 28, in celebration of Women’s Month as “healing”, “an eye opener” and “a celebration of our shared humanity”.
“Former learner Xolani Sithole returned to his old school to show them that a child from this same community can become an artist. We are a no-fee school, but on that day, we were rich,” said Nsindane who helped Sithole take the Phakathi Secondary School’s art class through photography training and organised the exhibition.
The exhibition, titled Simunye Kuhluke Imilando (We are one, only our history differs), was held at the school in Klaarwater, Pinetown, with guests coming from as far as Joburg and Cape Town.
Nsindane thanked the Muholi Art Institute (MA!) and its founder, celebrated Durban artist and photographer Professor Zanele Muholi, who sponsored the photographic project.
