Young voices meet experienced minds Northlands Girls' High School learners Usiphile Peyana, Isiphile Ngubane, Saanvi Chitra and Yonga Rozani participate in a panel discussion alongside Pops Rampersad, Prof. Kiren Thathiah and Prof. Michael Samuel during the launch of Three Decades of Democracy: Critical Reflections on Youth Day. The learners were widely praised for their thoughtful contributions on democracy, education and youth participation in shaping South Africa's future.
As South Africa commemorated Youth Day and reflected on 30 years of democracy, four Northlands Girls' High School learners captivated an audience of academics, authors, researchers and community leaders at the launch of *Three Decades of Democracy: Critical Reflections in Umhlanga on 16 June.
The publication, edited by Selvan Naidoo and Professor Jairam Reddy, brings together essays and reflections from academics, legal practitioners, activists, researchers and youth writers examining South Africa's democratic journey since 1994. The book was launched by the History Society of the 1860 Heritage Centre at the Umhlanga Apart Hotel as part of ongoing efforts to encourage critical reflection and public dialogue about the country's past, present and future. Proceeds from the sale of the book will support the ongoing work of the centre.
